The Calico Cat Cupboard will be providing clothing and shoe certificates to needy children this year so that the parents can buy them a new outfit and shoes for school. In addition we will provide new underwear and socks. We will be providing this help to clients that have been coming to our Wednesday Pantry & Evening Pantry during this year.
We will also, if we have sufficient support, offer this program to families who are referred by Monmouth County Department of Social Services. We will ask Social Workers, who do intake for our local area, to refer families who have a record of employment, but are now on hard times and truly need help even though they may not quality for public assistance or may be waiting for assistance to kick in.
So we’re asking for help with your financial gifts, from our ten COG churches. Each child will be given a $15 shoe certificate and a $25 clothing certificate. We hope to help at least 150 children which was a goal last year. So, a purchased $25 gift certificate or checks would be needed. Gift certificates from Target, Kohl’s, Sears/Kmart are stores most used. We will purchase the shoe certificate from Payless Corporate Headquarters, as they provide a discount to us. So cash donations will be needed for shoes.
Our economy is in a major slump, but every year the churches have faithfully provided what they were able to give, and like the “loaves and fishes” our families in need were all served. So, once again let us be mindful of His gifts to us and enjoy the great blessings we receive when we walk in God’s love sharing our blessing with others.
On behalf of our volunteers and the families who come to us for help, we thank you.
